Shari has a degree from Iowa State University (ISU) in Apparel Design. After working in the industry for four years she went back to ISU to get her teacher’s certificate and finished up at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). She also has a master’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Reading from UNO.
All of Shari’s seventeen years of teaching have been in the Omaha Public Schools. She started as a Title 1 teacher in Reading at Belvedere Elementary. She then moved to a fifth grade classroom at Belvedere. After 6 years, she took a fourth grade position at Minne Lusa Elementary. There she was grade level leader, a Positive Peer Culture (PPC) leader, and a grader for the state writing assessment. Shari currently teaches at Edison Elementary where she is the chairperson for the writing committee, and continues to grade the state writing assessment, serve on the district revision committee for Reading/Language Arts and is piloting one of the Reading programs the district is looking into adopting. She is also a member of the committee in charge of purchasing books for Edison’s ever-expanding bookroom.
During the summer she always teaches summer school. She has taught grades three through six and has been at: Fontenelle, Belvedere, Prairie Wind, Druid Hill, and Minne Lusa. For several summers Shari was involved with Summer Explorers which used trade books and field trips about Science to improve students’ reading abilities.
She is excited to be at the Wilson Focus School teaching fourth grade. She is inspired working with students, helping them learn and discover all the possibilities that await them in our world of vast opportunity. Maybe she’ll even have a future teacher this year!
