"Don't cheat yourself, challenge yourself."

Mr. Zastera was born in Columbus, NE, a small town just 83 miles west of the Omaha metro. Mr. Z grew up as a very active youth, playing both football and baseball from early on, all the way the up through his senior year in high school. Along with the sports he also participated in the high school musicals and plays. Even though Mr. Z was not the greatest singer in the world he enjoyed being on the lit-up stage and in front of an audience. After graduating Columbus High School in 2003 Mr.Z went on to live out in Estes Park, Colorado where he worked as a Kids Camp director at Lane Guest Ranch for the summers of 2004 through 2009. While working in Estes Park it was only natural for Mr. Zastera to turn his enthusiasm for sports into a passion for rock climbing. Since then it has given him multiple opportunities to travel the United States in search for the perfect climb.

During his summers working at the ranch, Mr. Z developed a tremendous excitement for teaching and working with the youth. So in the fall of 2005 Mr. Zastera enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and began the pathway towards his education career. In the fall semester of 2010 he student taught for District 66 at Hillside Elementary and Westside High School. Soon enough in December of 2010 Mr. Z graduated with a Kindergarten-12th grade Physical Education bachelor degree. Following graduation Mr. Zastera began substituting for the Omaha Public School District for the remaining of the year, as well as for the 2011-2012 school years. He was able to gain incredible understanding of the field when he was given the opportunity to work as a long-term substitute at Highland Elementary from November 2011 to April 2012—much of what he had learned during that experience will remain in his heart forever.

As a beginning teacher Mr. Zastera says that he is full of excitement, energy and eagerness to start his first year as a PE teacher. The curriculum for the year will include sports and activities such as Soccer, Flag-Football, Volleyball, Rhythms/Dance, Basketball, Bowling, Field Day, and numerous other fun and motivating activities. Mr. Zastera intends to continue the excellence that the Wilson Focus School staff has to offer; and he is more than anxious to kick off the 2012-2013 school year!
